Taught me never to trust doctors though. Not even Doctor Who.
Not to forget that they used very little CGI and a lot of practical effects, again something I prefer.nly
And it was pretty obvious why the doctor dude was with them, again I think that was made to add to the 80's flair.
It's certainly not the best movie they could've made, but it was good regarding all the fucking remakes and retarded bullshit like Avatar and Avatar the Last Airbender.
And it's not another Tim Burton/Johnny Depp fuckfest because I'm getting sick of them.
lol I actually chose to watch it because it wasn't yet another remake. I don't get what's with Hollywood and it's lack of imagination as of the last couple of years or so.
Hey. I'd take fuckfest over Eddy-poo-sparkle-chan any day.
Remakes are done because the teen and adult audience from nowadays doesn't know most of the old and good movies. It's not even a new phenomena, it's just being pulled off much bigger than it used to. There are few "young cinema goers" who've watched movies like Nightmare on Elmstreet in it's original take - and even if they have they don't like it because it's not /cool/ enough. Not enough special effucks 'n shit.
No special effects?
HA!
Practical effects could take on cgi any day, any minute.
Compare the old Star Wars movies to the new ones.
Granted, sometimes the puppets look a bit clunky, but come on, it's called charme.
And as a kid (and even as an adult) I can still believe that Luke's fighting that huge motherfucking Rancor and not some one meter tall puppet.
Well, tl: dr;
BLARG BLARG BLARG CRAP CRAP CRAP HIPPOPOTAMUS THEY SHOULD STICK TO OLDIES EVEN IF THEM YOUNGANS ARE LAME FOR NOT LIKING THEM
But you have a point there. I mean, the only people who like any of the old movies are usually people who are fans of the genre/what ever. I'm honestly surprised people can't or rather won't see the beauty in good ol' stop animation. Or hell, any of the old effects where less was more. When watching things like the original Star Wars trilogy or Jason and the Argonauts or even things like The Dark Crystal or even Wallace and Gromit you can tell that actual love and attention went into these things.
But that's expensive and even a plain Jane like myself can see that hollywood's only trying to pull in money and it's easier to cgi the hell out of something than to actually make it. Plus if you take a classic it /should/ turn into a money making whore. Someone in the hills forgot to tell these people that they shouldn't totally butcher the story lines though. They seem to be making that mistake more and more often.
The other day I finally got around to watching Psycho and about a month or so ago I watched the Shining and really, that stuff was scary. I don't understand why major movie houses go over board with cgi or they'll do worse by making the 'scary' parts things that you only get a glimpse of in a mirror or have some cat run across a corner of the screen. Or it's birds or something.
Actually...I totally lost my train of thought but you'd think that Hollywood would just start showing the original movies in theaters rather than bothering to shell out tons of money for a crap remake. But then again, like you said, youngers and their thinking shit's not cool because it's not all shiny and new.
Next thing you know though they'll stop making movies because there won't be a market for it anymore. There'll probably be indie films out there but they'll go the way of the old beta tapes over some sort of virtual reality chip you can shove in your head.
How the fuck do you even consider doing that?
And even the CGI effects are crap.
I'm not even going to rant about how shitty the fighting scenes are.
